About Rivercity Trailers
Rivercity Trailers is a leading Australian-made trailer
manufacturer, specialising in high-quality flat top trailers.
Rivercity Trailers began in 2014, when a 16-year-old Trae Ballantyne turned his passion for building into a full-fledged business. Trae had always been hands-on, learning to build from a young age, and by the time he was a teenager, he had developed a keen interest in trailers and manufacturing. Working for several businesses in his local area, Trae saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the trailer market, where quality and innovative design were often lacking.
It all started when Trae built his first trailer for a friend, working out of his parents’ shed. That trailer quickly attracted attention from the friend’s neighbor, and word of mouth began to spread. Recognising the demand, Trae decided to officially start Rivercity Trailers. He continued working out of his parents’ backyard shed for the first two years, refining his craft and building his reputation in the local agricultural community.
By 2016, as the orders kept rolling in, Trae rented his first shed to accommodate the growing business. Over the next few years, the company expanded rapidly, as Trae focused on providing high-quality, Australian-made trailers. Listening to customer feedback became an essential part of Rivercity’s growth, helping refine product designs and tailor them to meet the unique needs of farmers and tradespeople across South Australia.
In 2018, Trae made a significant investment, purchasing the property where Rivercity Trailers is still based today. This location provided much-needed room for further expansion, including the construction of new offices, showrooms, and additional sheds. Around the same time, Rivercity launched its Premium Range of trailers, featuring refined, laser-cut designs that set them apart in the market. The company continued to specialise in products for the agricultural sector, focusing on flat-top trailers, premium sheep ramps, and eventually introducing the Bulk Handler.
In 2022, a product developed to fill another gap in the market. From its humble beginnings in a backyard shed to becoming a trusted name in the agricultural and trade industries, Rivercity Trailers has always been driven by a commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
Today, the company is proud to remain a family-owned business, known for its Australian-made trailers that serve the needs of farmers, tradespeople, and government organisations alike.

Rivercity Timeline

Rivercity Trailers (RCT) was founded after its founder identified a market gap. The first trailer was built for a friend, sparking further interest and initial orders.

A customer’s challenge with maneuvering a sheep ramp led RCT to develop the first 8-meter portable sheep ramp, designed for easy movement and compatibility with truck decks. By 2024, over 700 of these ramps were in use across Australia.

RCT rented its first workshop space after outgrowing the founder's home setup. The same year, the company hired its first employee to meet growing demand.

Permanent Location & Premium Range Launch: RCT purchased its current property, marking a significant investment. New facilities were added, including a showroom, offices, and additional sheds.
Premium Trailer Range: Introduced a high-end, standardised product line featuring laser-cut designs, making RCT a standout for quality and innovation in trailer manufacturing.

Shift in Sales Channels: Previously reliant on field days for 80% of sales, RCT adapted to the changing market during COVID-19 by focusing on online marketing and leveraging word-of-mouth, significantly expanding reach and customer engagement.
Sheep Ramp Refinement: Product design for the sheep ramp reached maturity, stabilising as a key offering in the market, with continued customer-driven adjustments.

RCT introduced the Bulk Handler, an innovative trailer designed specifically for the agricultural sector, cementing its position as a solution-oriented provider in this niche.

Facility Expansion: RCT added 500 square meters to its workshop, accommodating increased production needs due to rising demand.
Product Differentiation: Emphasised high-quality, Australian-made products by adding certifications and logos from trusted suppliers like Nutrien Ag, BlueScope Steel, CSA Wheels, and Laser World on its website to strengthen brand credibility.
RCT completed testing and enhancements for the Gen 2 Premium X trailers, preparing for a 2025 launch.
Planned for official launch, the Gen 2 will showcase RCT’s continuous innovation with new features and refinements that set it apart from competitors. Marketing efforts will focus on the superior design, durability, and customisability of the Gen 2 models, reinforcing RCT’s standing as an industry leader.

Our Process For Getting Your Custom Trailer
At Rivercity Trailers, we ensure that your custom trailer is built with precision and care,
tailored to your specific needs. Here’s how our process works from start to finish:
1. Initial Consultatioin
Once you’ve decided on the type of trailer you need, our team will walk you through the available options, including any customisations or additional features that suit your requirements.
2. Place Your Order
When you’re ready to move forward, a deposit is required to confirm your order. This secures your trailer in our production schedule and allows us to begin the process.
3. Material Ordering
After the deposit is received, we immediately begin sourcing materials from our trusted suppliers. All premium trailers are fully laser-cut and CNC folded, ensuring the highest precision and quality.
4. Manufacturing & Assembly
Your trailer is then manufactured in-house. We assemble all parts except for the electrical components, aluminum parts, and suspension, which are added later.
5. Hot-Dip Galvanising
/Powder Coating
Once the initial assembly is complete, the trailer is sent to Adelaide for hot-dip galvanising. This ensures superior rust resistance and durability, making your trailer ready for harsh conditions.
*Only for Premium X Trailer
6. Final Assembly
After galvanising, the trailer returns to our facility, where it’s cleaned up to remove any sharp edges. We then install the suspension, aluminum parts, and any optional extras such as sides, load racks, or crates, depending on your order specifications.
7. Quality Control & Final Inspection
Every trailer goes through a rigorous quality control process. Our team ensures that all components are assembled correctly, and we perform a final inspection to confirm that your trailer meets our high standards.
8. Delivery or Pickup
Once the trailer is complete and passes inspection, you can choose to have it delivered or pick it up directly from our facility.

Typical Production Timeline
1. Ordering & Material Sourcing
After receiving your deposit, materials are ordered from our suppliers. This step typically takes about a week.
2. Manufacturing & Galvanising
The manufacturing process is generally completed in 50-60 hours for one trailer. However, since we build in batches, your trailer will be ready within a few weeks.
3. Final Assembly & Delivery
After final assembly, your order will be ready for delivery or pickup, based on your location and preferences.
